Sale Catalogue Advert
2006 the Santa Gertrudis Breeders Association provided Frank and Lynn stud number 2022. The Ashman’s had developed a tidy operation in the Beaudesert region specialising in the artificial breeding of cattle of their choice. Santa Gertrudis having earned their stripes on the Australian landscape and adaptable in all environments were their favoured breed. With the assistance of their mate and Vet, Peter Turley a good degree of success occurred. The bug had bit and two properties on the Darling Downs were purchased to expand their aspirations. An early visit to Texas USA and the subsequent importation of DHF Hoosier Daddy (P) semen enabled the pair to infuse local quality foundation cows with polled outcrossed genes.
The Shannonbrook operation at Brymaroo is still a work in progress but the formula “effort in = reward out” stands true. Six years of intensive slogging at the Downs properties has provided fencing, water, improved pasture, crops, infrastructure AND homemade breeders equivalent to the best. Expense was not spared obtaining foundation females, homage being paid to their breeders, including, Rosevale, Yarrawonga Waco, Cree, Wave Hill, Warenda, Warrillee, Glen Oaks, Moongana, Raytek, Cyncoed, Gyranda, Santa Park, Graylyn, Doondi & Kolodong. These breeding cows were selectively chosen for similarity in type but variations of blood lines.
Progeny from cows sired by local and overseas bulls, both artificial and natural, are testament to hard work and determination. The stud attempts to be market orientated, innovative, creative, progressive, pertinent and involved in an industry that is vital to Australia’s future. To be a small but crucial link in this huge beef chain is a comforting place to exist and develop.
The upcoming Western Downs Santa Sale is a significant step for Shannonbrook, and is honoured to be associated with Glen Leigh, Hayleigh & Warrillee in its formation. This particular stud sale at the Western Downs Regional Council Dalby selling complex is a first for this magnificent facility. The specially designed, purpose built sale ring will lead the march in providing South Eastern Queensland beef cattle men & women a venue to be appreciated into the future.
