The Burramurra Santa Gertrudis Stud is located near Mathoura, in the southern Riverina region of New South Wales on the property “ Stirling Park “.
Burramurra was registered in 2002 . With the assistance of Ron Kellock, a small group of “S” cows were purchased at the Hazelwood (stud 1905 ) dispersal sale. Additional females have been purchased from Kuloomba – Magno-Bovis – Walmona – Wave Hill and Glenalbyn studs to provide a wider genetic pool to work with in the herd. Bulls have mainly been sourced from the Waco, Watasanta, Restdown , Kuloomba and Yarrawonga studs. Burramurra is not an especially large stud, and in the light of the last five or six seasons, this has possibly been a good thing. When there is little more than fresh air and a view to survive on, the tough get about their business, and any animals that struggle to make the grade have had to get going somewhere else, but definitely not on “Stirling Park”. In my quest to raise the Burramurra Stud profile, I have been showing at the Adelaide – Melbourne and Sydney Royal Shows for some time now, as well as at the Brisbane Exhibition of recent times only. Burramurra Santa Gertrudis cattle are regular competitors at many of our local shows, all the time promoting the virtues of our breed to commercial cattlemen. Our display at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo, always creates much interest. Gradually the Burramurra name is being seen on the lists of reference sires, in Santa Gertrudis bull sale catalogues. “Stirling Park” is also the home of Wandean Poll Merino Stud. |
