Triple S Keg K44 |
Triple S stud was established in 2008 by the Bruggemann family, although we have been breeding Santa's for 25 years. We are based 26 kms north of Taroom at "Wongalea". "Wongalea" consists of improved Brigalow country growing mainly buffel grass and about 300 acres of cultivation used for oats preparation of our bulls and fattening steers and heifers for the EU market.
We run about 400 cows of which 250 of these are registered. All females are control mated and must preg test in calf every year or be culled, as has been our practice for the last 25 years. This years sale bulls are sired by Waco M460 (PP) ($28000), Yarrawonga Dividend (P) ($36000), Triple S Maverick M52 (PP) by Yarrawonga Dividend and Triple S Keg K44. Last year we retained an impressive son of Triple S Keg K44 in Triple S Payback and there are bulls in this years line up that are just as good as Payback.
When we are breeding bulls we are very commercially focused, we keep 50 to 60 of our best bull calves at branding and we cull once in November and then in February to get our best 30 saleable animals. When we cull the bulls, we cull for unsuitable temperament, loose sheaths, incorrect structure and any bull that does not have enough weight gain and performance is also culled. At the end of this the breed classifier scrutinises our remaining bulls to decide whether they will be classified "S" or herd bull status.
This year we are offering 21 "S" bulls and 1 herd bull that have had a good preparation on a high roughage grain mix and green wheaten hay and then 50 days on oats. Our sale bulls were chosen for high weight gain, good bone and muscle, loose skin and good temperament which we feel has been achieved.
